Party and puppies

I am officially back in Utah now, and it has been one crazy weekend! I thought I'd post some pictures of what I have been up to, along with my cousins and aunt and uncle.

First, we celebrated Rachel's 9th birthday with about 10 other eight- and nine-year-olds. She wanted to be Hermione for Halloween, and she wanted all of her friends to dress up in their costumes too. So her mom, Becky, and I spruced up her dad's old graduation gown to make her a wizarding robe. Danielle, her sister, dressed up in a BYU cheerleading uniform, and all the kids made haunted houses with graham crackers. Note to self: a group of little girls is EXTREMELY loud.

And this morning, I woke up to the horrible smell of wet dog and...puppies! Dakota, the family dog, had two puppies and throughout the day kept having more. We thought she was done at seven, which is when I snapped this picture.

But Dakota didn't stop at seven. As she lay snuggled in the converted sandbox dog bed nursing her puppies, she popped out three more! There are now ten puppies, four kids, and three adults in the house. I never knew puppies could be so loud — or how they were actually born. That's something I hope I don't see again for awhile.

Still, it's nice to see how loving a mama dog can be with her puppies, and how much kids adore holding them. Dakota is one patient mommy.
