Fashion Friday: Mint julep

Shades: Maui Jim | Earrings: GroopDealz | Top: Local boutique | Shorts: Utah state fair (old) | Flats: Shoe Carnival

And this, my friends, is why you don't wear your hair in a high ponytail and have your husband take pictures of you. I look like a baby with one clump of curls clustered on the top. Nice. I promise I had visible hair (in my defense, dark hair blends in a lot more than light hair does, and curly hair is always a big dark mass in pictures).

I'm not sure why I never thought of this combination before, but mint and aqua look really good together. The colors are complementary on the color wheel, but the light shade contrasts nicely with the red — and you don't look like a Christmas tree.

Also, Andrew saw these flats on clearance when we were at Shoe Carnival about a month ago and knew I would like them. Ladies, find a man who pays attention to the things you like! I am lucky to have a husband who understands my love affair with red. :)

Oh, and I have these anchor earrings in navy blue as well, and I LOVE THEM. They were super cheap, too. GroopDealz for the win!

How do you feel about red and mint combo? What do you pair red with to tone it down?

Fashion Friday: White Stripes

Top: Zara | Scarf: Vanity | Pants: Paper Denim & Cloth (old) | Boots: Pink & Pepper

I saw a similar outfit on a blog that I adore, Merrick's Art, and decided that I could totally pull off pattern mixing. And I think it worked! This scarf is printed with both a floral and striped pattern already, and when it's paired with a simple striped top, the outfit is much more interesting.

If you're interested in mixing patterns in your outfit, start simple. I have to admit that I usually play it safe with patterns, but adding a printed scarf you love is an easy way to try something new. Also, scarves are super cheap and can quickly be taken off if you decide your outfit is too crazy (unlike a shirt or loud floral pants).

Do you mix patterns? What are your favorite styles to switch up?
