Fashion Friday: Stars and stripes forever

Scarf: Etsy (also available on VeryJane) | Top: Ross | Shorts: Utah State Fair | Sandals: Forever 21

I know I'm a month early to be wearing Independence Day stuff, but when I saw this scarf, I knew I had to have it — and I've worn it twice since I got it even though it's been 90 degrees here. I'm willing to sweat a little to sport a patriotic scarf! It makes me feel so proud of our country.

Do you have a favorite festive item you pull out only a few times a year? I'm hoping to wear this scarf throughout the summer and get plenty of wear out of it. It's perfect when the sun goes down.

98 candles

Yesterday we celebrated Grandpa Wertz's 98th birthday. It's pretty fitting that this man, a military veteran who is incredibly devoted to his country, nearly shares his birthday with America's independence day.

And as Grandpa pretended to blow out his candles, Andrew took some pictures of him that I thought would be fun to put together in an animated gif. Even at 98, Grandpa still has a great sense of humor.

I've also been playing with the new flip video camera Andrew scored from Woot lately and recorded Grandpa blowing out the candles -- so you can see him blow them out in real time, too!

Happy birthday, Grandpa! And happy Independence Day, too! I hope it's a great one.
